Description of this research area

This area of knowledge involves researching the component parts of the tourism system based on the idea of a digital ecosystem with massive amounts of data geared to simultaneously providing capabilities for tourism companies, market players and public institutions.

In the Information and Knowledge Society in general and in the area of tourism and mobility in particular, mass data volumes are being generated, some of which are structured and others are not. The increase in the capacities for processing, storing and having the data available is enabling the development of the Big Data phenomenon.

This new paradigm offers a new way to explore the situation and conditions surrounding tourism and tourism systems today, providing a powerful observation, analysis and forecasting tool. Big Data opens new horizons of knowledge and contributes to the competitiveness and productivity of the tourism sector.
