Description of this research area

ICT for religious tourism and pilgrimage is an emerging research line of webatelier.net. It aims at investigating the role and opportunities given by ICT to promote and develop religious and pilgrimage destinations as well as to enhance tourists’/pilgrims’ experience. ICT have the potential to augment religious tourists’ and pilgrims’ experience, by providing additional information and services, and facilitating networking with people who share the same beliefs and interests. This research line is intended to answer questions related to the communication of the cultural-religious heritage of destinations and attractions, to their promotion and enhancement, as well as to the exploitation of such heritage for intercultural encounters and regional development.
